1311317 2012-11-09 04:52:00 The new Windows 8 Defender program is supposed to be an upgrade of MSSE including anti spyware detecting (Defender). Has anybody here (Wainui?) heard about or tested the effectiveness of the new program? I'm still using Malwarebytes and Superantispyware with 8 but is this now 'overkill' or still necessary. fnphoto (2434)
1311318 2012-11-09 04:55:00 No, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are still useful, though I'd personally ditch Superantispyware and pick up Spybot instead. Think of windows 8 defender as Microsoft Security Essentials renamed ;) Nick G (16709)
1311319 2012-11-09 04:56:00 I got a press release from bitdefender today that said windows 8 with windows defender was still vulnerable to 15% of the 100 top current threats. Bitdeftender is top rating for detection, so for me, that's a worrying result. Zara Baxter (16260)

1311322 2012-11-09 05:28:00 Haven't actually tested out the inbuilt protection of W8. Personally I install Nod32 regardless.

If MSSE is the same then its not all that fantastic, seen many PC's infected with MSSE, but on saying that, its is one of the best free ones available.

I'd personally ditch Superantispyware and pick up Spybot instead. Super still detects malware that Spybot misses, and visa versa.
