2012-11-06 05:15:00 | I got this from my latest run of Belarc Adviser::: 361 . 18 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 331 . 23 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space SONY DVD RW DRU-810A [Optical drive] 3 . 5" format removeable media [Floppy drive] Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 2 KODAK ESP AiO MEM CARD USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 3 Maxtor 6E040L0 [Hard drive] (41 . 11 GB) -- drive 1, s/n E1F0KW2E, rev NAR61590, SMART Status: Healthy SOYO USB Storage-CFC USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 4 SOYO USB Storage-SMC USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 5 WDC WD3200AAJB-00J3A0 [Hard drive] (320 . 07 GB) -- drive 0, s/n WD-WCAV26168031, rev 01 . 03E01, SMART Status: Healthy But every cold boot takes several attempts . Sometimes the NTLDR is missing, other times the load stops with the B/W load bar just frozen . Other problems are the beads in the XP start up freeze and other times (a LOT of times) the 'Adobe Flash Player has Just Crashed' note comes up . If I wait a while after the request for CTRL-ALT-DEL and just let it sit there, I can hit the power kill button and it'll boot up just fine . I once in a while get a problem with Adobe, like I said - but I can be doing something and all of a sudden I have no windows open and I'm at the desktop . I've run every conceivable test I can think of, several anti-programs including Spybot S&D with FULL Immunization - HJT, MSE, CCleaner, Super Antispyware, etc, etc . Nada . I honestly suspect a dying hdd - but the report of them being healthy makes me halt and I'm looking elsewhere . This is my oldest unit - and I want to get it all up to speed, and it has all the M$ updates and Hotfixes and SPs . Is there anything here about which to worry? | 1310703 | 2012-11-06 07:37:00 | Hi Joe, Flash has been very unstable for ages, so put that issue aside as a possible secondary issue. I'm picking the poor startup until warmed up is a weak PSU or bad caps on the mobo somewhere. HDD's usually work better when cold, so I'm picking the drives are fine. Maybe try to reduce the load on it by disconnecting the second HDD and see if it'll boot from cold any better then.

2012-11-06 08:11:00 | Kinda what I expect I guess. It's pretty old -- one of the first XP units and it's prolly too long in the tooth to be resurrectable I guess. <sigh> And why do I have Apple Push in it?

2012-11-06 08:14:00 | If its the psu just buy a replacement. If its the mobo......bye bye computer. | Nick G (16709) | |
2012-11-06 08:17:00 | I think I have another SOYO Plat-Dragon mother here somewhere. | SurferJoe46 (51) | |
2012-11-06 09:19:00 | Run tdsskiller on it, see if you've picked up a rootkit. Rootkits can cause slow booting, and they can also crash things on startup. I wouldnt rely on SMART, its not reliable Java is out of date so is ccleaner, and are there 3 different versions of spybot in Add/remove programs?? You only need one. Run ccleaner and look under scheduled tasks under tools/startup. Delete the flash entry

2012-11-06 10:48:00 | Loose cables or faulty PSU or such would be my guess | Agent_24 (57) | |
2012-11-06 15:50:00 | Remember that I'm on the other side of the International Date Line - so some of my responses will be a little delayed. I'm not an ingrate nor am I ignoring this information - I'm just up at different hours. I'm going to try that 'tdsskiller ' - hope springs eternal I'm afraid. Thanks heaps and I'll report back what did/did not happen.

2012-11-06 19:36:00 | I would also run ccleaner, go to tools/startup. Click on save to text file, bottom right. Copy and paste the txt in here. Do the same thing, after going to tools/uninstall. We'll see what else is installed | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-11-06 19:51:00 | I'm firing up the SOYO as we speak. Give me a few more minutes I'm on my Eee-PC Asus at the mo.
