75674 2002-09-02 05:52:00 Am running WindowsME and had a bit of a major crash. Unable to work out why the system crashed and used the Start Up disk to get going again. System had been running fine for a long while prior to crash so did not use 'system restore' to return to a former time.

Have since found "RUN" on the Start Menu has disappeared - can anyone out there help me get it back?

75675 2002-09-02 07:09:00 I don't know how to get it back.

But WINKEY+R should let you use the run command.

75676 2002-09-02 08:04:00 Go to start > settings > taskbar and startmenu > advanced.

Then under Startmenu & Taskbar is there a check beside 'Display Run' ?

75678 2002-09-02 13:58:00 Hi trimar! Try this,
Right Click on start, Click properties, then custormize, then advanced, scoll down the start menu items till you find "Run Command" Put a tick in the box next to it, then click "ok" to exit.

75679 2002-09-02 22:53:00 G'day Mattrix,

tried that - 'properties' does not show in the window - Scan with Norton AntiVirus is in it's place.

Confused?

75681 2002-09-02 23:09:00 Hi again

Properties is not listed when you right click on the start button (at least not with WinME) so don't be confused.

When you followed my previous instructions and click on the advanced tab (in taskbar and start menu properties dialog box) you should of seen a white area at the bottom with a scroll bar down the right side. Listed in this white area should be:

startmenu
..... display favourites
..... display logoff
..... display run
etc..

Have another look and let us know.

75682 2002-09-02 23:19:00 Hi Trimar, no answer yet but I believe there is a registry setting for this - the trouble is finding it. Also with the Run missing and this being caused by a system crash it may be symptomatic of other problems - some which may not have surfaced yet.

It may be advisable to start backing some things up - just in case. You may have to end up doing a Windows reinstall if other problems start happening.

75683 2002-09-03 02:04:00 Ok, I think I have found the registry key relating to Run. If Jen C 's tip didnt work then you will need to amend a key value in the registry.

In the registry, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer and change the NoRun key from 1 to 0. If there isnt a NoRun key then create it and put a 0 as the value.

Never used the registry? See...

It is advisable to make a backup of the registry prior to making any changes.

Cheers
