| 75657 | 2002-09-02 04:34:00 | gidday, i currently have installed on my puter; norton windoctor, iolo system mechanic, tweakxp 2.2 and tweak ie 3.0. i use system mechanic and tweak xp to clean the registry and obselete/unnecessary files etc (also use tweakxp for some of its great tweaks). these programs often come up with different reg items for removal, is this just a case of neither picking up everything or could one program be better than the other for some reason? i use tweak ie to clear my index.dat. i generally use norton to pick up anything these may have missed. are these the best programs for these tasks, is there a program that combines all these tools? opinions and/or advice welcome (please!) p.s. athlon 1333, 640 mb ram, winxp pro, kt 133a chipset |

Each of the registry cleaning utilities seem to have slightly different rules, and may find entries to delete that other utils dont. Norton Utilities doesnt tell you what it has found, does it? Mine just says x number of errors. It seems ok though. I prefer really to see what the bad entries are like in System Mechanic. They probably all find the important redundant entries, and what one util leaves behind is probably not that significant |

| 75661 | 2002-09-03 14:37:00 | Hi.. Similar thoughts with me. - Have been using "Super Rabbit Registry Scan" to scan and clean what it calls rubbish (and what I also thought) periodically for about 1.5 years. But just scanned recently with RegCleaner - and it displayed a massive list, with around 100 odd registry entries(including trial programs) to programs that I had long ago uninstalled. So manually selected references and "deleted" them... |
