75871 2002-09-05 04:25:00 Hehe - just let me know when you've all decided it is done. I suggest you put the finished product in a new FAQ thread for me to tag a sa FAQ. Biggles (121)
75872 2002-09-05 04:37:00 Yup, will be doing that Bruce. Just wanted to get it nice and tidy now so that it won't need to be altered once it's put up as the FAQ.

Uh oh, I think this post is my big 1K.... <big long drum roll>

Bloody hell, typical woman! I suggested a FAQ but nobody seemed to want to do it. So I go ahead and write something ... but thats not good enough. Fair enough because I like your version better. :-) So then you amend it and when I say it looks good it's my fault again because I didnt criticise it and Im not objective! LOL. :D

Its like one of those questions that all men fear ... "Do I look fat in this dress honey?". The only safe answer is to pretend you didnt hear and keep reading the paper and shuffle down in your chair. :_|

I feel Tim the Toolmans comment ... "I have no opnion on that" is probably best at this stage. ;-)

75874 2002-09-05 07:35:00 lol ..... .I find

"I refuse to comment for fear of recriminations at a future date or point "

tends to work very well with those "do I look fat in this? ..... Do you like my new hairdo?? ..... . why are you staring at her?? .... do you think she is attractive?? ..... are you busy right now dear??" type of questions

They KNOW that any answer you give will be wrong and they will use it against you at some stage within the next 25 years or so. :)

ummm parry where did ya get the asbestos suit??

75875 2002-09-05 08:19:00 Its the new Asbestos 2002 Super Suit from Binford. Guaranteed to keep you safe from the sharpest tongue and those penetrating stares. :p

But youll have to get your own coz its every man for himself.

75876 2002-09-05 10:02:00 Parry and Dipstick01 WHERE IS YOUR BACKBONE! :D

All you need to know is how to answer diplomatically whilst not telling outright lies (the 'I know you are lying' is what gets you into trouble!!)

For example:
Question: Does this dress make me look fat?
Your answer: No
Correct answer: Oh, you are not wearing your black dress, I really love you in that dress (in another words, it is a size bigger) :D

Back to the FAQ topic - Susan, I am sure you have found some creating startup boot disk links, but I hunted some out just in case :D

75877 2002-09-05 10:08:00 Hi guys, look what I got! <waves brand new Betelgeuse 2003 asbestos-suit-melting, chair blasting flame thrower in front of parry and dipstick's noses>

Nice, eh? Now, what were you saying again? <prod-prod> :D

OK OK you've got me squirming in my chair - I'm guilty as charged. :8}

I didn't mean it to sound like that though, I was just giving your memory a prod in case there were bits you had forgotten. Men are forgetful, you have to admit. It's what all women fear: you'll wait until the FAQ was all nicely painted and polished and parked in the FAQ department with the others, then you'll go and spring it on me that I missed such and such a tip and make me ruin the effect. Happens every time. <roll eyes icon>

Besides, you didn't "go ahead and write something", you went ahead and copied and pasted something!! Duh!

<tucks brand new Betelgeuse 2003 flame thrower under arm> Ok, I won't use it - this time. After all, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have this Registry FAQ this side of Christmas so you're safe, for now.

But don't forget, your names will be in my little black book for the next 25 years. ;-)

:D :D :D

75878 2002-09-05 10:19:00 Atta girl Jen, you tell 'em! You're absolutely right, it's the lies we don't like, isn't it. Or perhaps the lack of diplomacy. ;-)

You have been busy - thanks for those links. I was actually just going to suggest that people go to Windows Help and look up creating a startup disk as that describes it best for each OS. However, that first link you've provided has got some good graphical instructions and the other two also look good so I'll put them all in to cover all bases. :D

It's looking good and I think it's ready to be put up as soon as I've got your links in.

75879 2002-09-05 10:46:00 Sorry I wasnt listening. What were we talking about again? :-)

<Besides, you didn't "go ahead and write something", you went ahead and copied and pasted something!! Duh!
I resemble that comment! ;)

Thanks for the tip Jen. May save a night on the couch. Now if I can just build up some credits...

Being serial again, it does look good, and thats a lovely black dress your wearing. My fav. The comments about editing the reg in my go at the FAQ were my own comments ... so it wasnt total libel (but pretty damn close). You could add that or <ahem> copy out of one of those links some info about editing.

I liked the piece on Reg cleaners as well - I didnt consider them but its relevant. Sometimes I wonder if they are more trouble than good. The effects of deleting the wrong key may not be discovered for a loooooong time so tracking down faults can be an issue, but the good reg cleaners offer to backup before making changes. You covered their shortfalls by saying to backup first - well done.

I think you are almost there!

75880 2002-09-05 11:28:00 :O There, I knew it!! I've posted the FAQ and now you've made a new suggestion!

Well, I almost put your Keys bits in, but wasn't sure if it was appropriate, ie over the top or not . I haven't seen many, if any, posts on actually adding to these keys so far, just altering the contents . What say we see how it goes and add it later if the need is warranted? I'll copy and paste your bits to grab them if I need to in the future, how's that?

<scratches head> what's DEFCON3??

BTW My sister tells me that since they bought a Super King size bed her hubby refuses to sleep on the couch but it doesn't matter because the bed is so big she doesn't know he's there . They have to page each other in it . :D

I was asked the other day how many times my hubby has been banished to the couch and I didn't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that it's only been once . And I'm not telling anyone how long I've been married as that's giving away too much! :D
