75618 2002-09-02 11:10:00 with AVG I think the default period for checking for definitions is set to 14 days, I suggest changing that. I haven't used AVG for more than 2 days so I can't offer qualified comments on it.

I suggest having a look at this site as they offer reviews on various AV programs and also ( very wisely ) offer some advice on all the different tests that people seem to throw at these programs. Claymania (www.claymania.com)

And no there appears to be no catch, although I have cursed the name AVG when trying to remove Klez affected versions and keep hitting that %^%$# resident sheild. :)

Anti Virus seems to be like firewalls with everyone having their own personal preference but the golden rule with all of them is to make sure the definitions are up to date, otherwise save yourself some time and effort and leave the machine switched off.

75619 2002-09-02 21:36:00 Hi there,

I have been using AVG for 12 months now and have found it to be
as good as any of the purchased programmes (Norton, McAfee etc)
that I have had. The trick, of course, as with with any AV Software,
is to UPDATE REGULARLY.

Cheers
