75667 2002-09-02 05:29:00 I have purchased a Laptop to replace a damaged one running Win 98. of which I have the original restore disc and certificate of Authenticity. The laptop came with 98 pre -installed. The replacement laptop has win98 se but purchased without cds. and is of the same make and model. I believe that at sometime Win 98 has been replaced with the se version. What I would like to know is if my restore discs could be used if I ever needed to reinstall win 98se. would I have to format the drive and instal from my disc or are they useless in my case. Any suggestions please or information.? John Boy (1365)

75669 2002-09-02 06:03:00 Thanks robo I thought that would be the case. So basically it is a full working version and would instal OK. Would I loose all data on the hard drive. And what about the drivers. Would they be on the disc or would they need to be reinstalled? John Boy (1365)
75670 2002-09-02 06:05:00 Some "restore" CDs will work only on the make and model they come with. The new one probably has a restore partition or directory on the hard disk, which is not helpful if your disk fails.

Check with the vendor about this. Before you get any problems.
