Whats the differance between XP home and proffesional?
I'm looking for an OS for a machine that is essentually for graphic design.
If it were mine i'd run '98, but its for someone else who wants a "modern" OS......

Again i request any recomendations, and ask why?

76096 2002-09-03 10:36:00 I don't remember what was said, but this was discussed not all that long ago. Have you done a search? Be a bit of a pig finding it I suppose, but you might be lucky. :-) Susan B (19)
76097 2002-09-03 10:43:00 I've not had much experience with Home. But Professional is brilliant. I think they'd be a lot better of with Pro for that kind of stuff.

Check out what software they need to use though. NOT EVERYTHING will work in XP. It could be costly to upgrade the software. Maybe 2K could be an idea.

76098 2002-09-03 11:42:00 XP Pro comes in a blue box and XP Home comes in a green one ;) :D

76100 2002-09-03 11:48:00 To be honest, I've never had a problem with programs not running in Windows XP (running Pro version), except for a couple of really old DOS games (which aren't supported anyway - just wanted to see if they'd work).

76102 2002-09-03 14:55:00 LOL @ Mike - they're also spelled differently. Greg S (201)
76103 2002-09-03 23:37:00 For a person thats written 600+ replies in this help forum it seems perculiar that you don't know the difference between Home and Professional, or for that fact know how to do a search to find out the differences. Could this be another Teachme in the making?...................... calm down Chris just ruffling your feathers.
Try going to microsofts site i believe they might know a bit about that product.
2 differences i know is that pro allows you to work as a remote accessor to someone elses computer. ie, its good for people who have written 600+ replies on a help forum, and want to help out their buddies that have stuffed up their own computers.
also pro has security protection on folders, It also has compatability for dual processors. Bla bla bla, but hey what would i know i've only written 30+ replies.
