2002-09-02 22:39:00 | Okay, here's how the story goes: My motherboard was the most recent victim of a power spike or an over loaded power supply (200Watt running a few extras...) and It's dead! I've got a shiny new Case, to try another motherboard I'd been given (It was ATX and My old one was only a P200 and didn't use the newer power types) and I tried that but it's not going. Any help on why would be good, but the friend who gave it too me said that he'd tried it on a dodgy PSU before hand, I'm guessing it might have blown it! I have HDD (10Gigs, sufficient for my needs), CD-Rom (Writer is in the family PC) NIC, Modem, FDD, and I've got some old PC133 SD-RAM (Well, It's new coz I was on 98Megs of EDO-RAM - No laughter, please!) I've been looking at a new board, and it looks great, however, I wanted the expertise of the many contributers to PressF1, so, What are your suggestions. I have a friend who's been gloating for the past 6 months maybe about his shining 1.6Ghz, so I'd like to whip the @$$ off him, but it's a luxury. Budget wise too, coz I'm a student and not a rich one at that. All up, I wanna spend about a max of maybe $300-$400, but maybe that's not enough. I want every single comment, suggestion or question available. Maybe this is in the FAQ, so I guess I should check there next. Cheers Chilling_Silence

2002-09-02 23:45:00 | Asus P4BS533 ... supports the latest P4 chips (up to 2.54GHz?? I think... anyone want to correct me?) and ddr333 mhz ram too. Around the $262 - $273 mark... leaves you some spare dosh to spend on nice ram... ;) Lo.

2002-09-03 00:30:00 | with new mobo you will need new cpu, new ram, video card and you will need to check if your powersupply can handle it. with that budget and concidering the gear you already have you might be best to look for 2nd hand parts. for eg p3 sdram mobo, agp video card.

2002-09-03 00:52:00 | Tweak'e... the Ctech PC website lists a P4 3.0GHz chip at 533Mhz... does this mean the asus board I had above will support up to a P4 3.0GHz now?? Lo.

2002-09-03 02:39:00 | >Asus P4BS533 no such mobo. i guess you mean p4s533 i think the latest bios will support 3gig cpu however 3gig cpu is not out yet (nothing on intel web site) so i presume they are taking preorders. if spending $1777.50 on a cpu is your thing..........
