2002-09-02 21:19:00 | I have set Norton Speed Disk to defrag drive C several nights in a row now. When I return in the morning the puter is still busily whirring away and the defrag has progressed only 2 or 3 percent. Is this normal? How long should a defrag take? The drive is not huge (about 7Mb) and is a little over half full. Any ideas? | hukcomse (1516) | |
2002-09-02 22:12:00 | Go tp www.powerdefrag.com for their utility, it will do it in no time for you | wgeorgec (1648) | |
2002-09-02 22:19:00 | Defrag in safe mode only, as any other software running will simply cause defrag to start again ....and again... | godfather (25) | |
2002-09-02 22:28:00 | Hehe, Check the FAQ, but safe mode, as godfather stated, is your best bet. It can be done normally, but safe mode will be your best option! | Chilling_Silence (9) | |

2002-09-02 22:55:00 | I had problems with an A4Tech Mouse driver, even loaded in safe mode and that kept stopping my defrag 4 a while | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2002-09-02 23:33:00 | nortons speed disk is way better than windows defrag (including powerdefrag). first thing is to look at what its doing. is it restarting? if so close down any backgraound programs. i also suggest you run diskdoctor before running defrag. also run norton optomistion wizard before hand as well. check DMA is enable for the hardrive (in device manager).

2002-09-03 21:41:00 | Thanks to all who offered help . I have used powerdefrag which certainly got the job completed, but also reset all my internet settings for me at the same time . . . . . . . so some time spent repairing that problem . Incidentally I was using Norton Speed Disk to defrag - that was the one that was so slow in the first place - as part of a regular system check . . . . hopefully now that the disk is reorganised the regular check will work .
