(Most of my programs use windows) I printed off the stuff you suggested but got stuck at the part no 10 "Right click one of the .PWL files , Click rename , and then rename the file with and .old file name extension." What the H*** is that?? Help?? |

If so, just do as the instructions in Parry's link say and right click on the file name, select rename and just delete the PWL end bit and replace with the letters OLD (make sure the 'dot' is still present) Eg. UNKNOWNU.PWL becomes UNKNOWNU.OLD Then restart your PC |

SoniKalien, yup you can press the ESC key to bypass the password, but what happens when you boot up next time... and the next... and the next..... Pressing ESC also has other downsides - see whats happens to your dialup password. I believe that if you avoid the password in this fashion you will have to enter the dialup password everytime. A bit of an inconvenience. Its best to go through the procedure - you can always have a blank password so it never prompts you again anyway. |

If you're faced with a login box while starting windows for the first time (eg after areformat) just press OK, and that will let you continue on your merry way. This logs you in as "default" or "default user" depending on which flavour you have. If you have set dial-up accounts while logged in as "default" there shouldn't be any problem. It's only when other plods start messing about with your PC. Deleting the password list sometime doesn't get rid of the login screen. Why not? because in the network settings in control panel, there is a primary login mode wotsit - this should be set to "windows login" instead of the default (and annoying) "Microsoft Family Login". |
