You need Pro in a corporate domain though, no question. For the average home user there is too much to go wrong in Pro. Like not getting access to apps if you log on other than admin, etc..

Aside from everything else covered here, XP Pro supports multiple processors whereas XP Home doesn't.

Given your expressed need is for a design system ( I assume graphic design) the applications one might reasonably assume you may use for this purpose often support this feature and in many respects demand it.

If you have a need for, or perhaps later contemplate the need for, a 'fast pc' then multiple processor support may become a consideration.

You have given me food for thought.....
Lets see what the budget really is, and go with that. I think it's going to be a single proccessor machine, but i shall keep it in mind if $$ becomes no object.
Graphic design is the extreem of what the machine will be asked to do, i am yet to work out just how often such work will be done on it. If it is only something done as the occational project, then i won't be recomending dual proccessors or anything that high end.
