75945 2002-09-02 23:52:00 when viewing sites which display moving pictures while giving a "loading" message, my browser IE 5.50 stops loading the site. So I can't get past the introduction screen. I'm not sure if it is the site or my PC. Examples are www.eurofresh.com and www.bestawards.co.nz. Could it be conflicting or duplicated flash software or whatever viewers are used to process these animations? It seems to stuff up subsequent attempts to check email too while on that log on session. npomeroy (1732)
75946 2002-09-03 00:37:00 What are your ActiveX controls and plugins set to?

You can check this by clicking on Tools > internet options > security tab.

Click on the Internet icon and then click on the custom level button.

I was able to view the sites mentioned OK with the following settings:

- Download signed ActiveX controls - prompt selected
- Run ActiveX controls and plugins - prompt selected
- Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - prompt selected

Leave the other ActiveX options on [/b]disable[/b]

When viewing the site you will be prompted to run ActiveX, click yes if you trust that site (not a dogdy one!)

You have to be careful with security with some sites but the above settings will let you choose to run ActiveX or not.

I hope this will help - if not, hopefully someone else will have a suggestion :D

75947 2002-09-03 00:50:00 i think you will find those sites are heavy in flash.(thank god its not activeX crap)

you can try the latest flashplayer (www.macromedia.com) and others (www.macromedia.com)

what speed cpu/computer do you have?? some slow pc's are better off not haveing the flash players as they crash when trying to run it.

75948 2002-09-03 00:54:00 These are Shockwave sites and you may need to upgrade to the latest flash player.
It is not unusual for flash sites to crash your browser and this can be caused by many things.
Have a good look through all the suggestions and information on this link.

AMD Duron 850 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 30% free on 4 GB hard drive.
I've reinstalled latest Flash player, and IE 6 from the PC W CD

Still no joy but will run sample flash media from Macromedia web site.

75951 2002-09-03 04:25:00 I've been through the website, upgraded to their latest flash player, deleted previous version, loaded I E 6.0 from the PC World CD, and still no joy. But I can view a sample Mountain bike screen on the Macromedia website. In the "bad" sites, action stops at the end of the intro screen with the progress bar partway along, the little green screens stop glowing, and usually no further internet exchange is possible. Coincidentally when we use MSN messenger the machine frequntly hangs. npomeroy (1732)
75952 2002-09-03 05:19:00 Well that's not a slow machine and on my old banger of Pent II 266 the first site loaded no problems, apart from driving me up the wall with frustration at how long it took. I expect you have your reasons for wishing to go there, but it was enough to stop me in my tracks rather than explore further.

Did you look at the Active X settings like Jen advised? You need to accept them before it will load.

I am a little mystified at "256 MB RAM, 30% free on 4 GB hard drive" - is this 30% space on your hard drive free, or 30% of your RAM free?

Have you tried clearing your temporary internet files and history? Sometimes that can help, especially if you reboot immediately after deleting them.
