76453 2002-09-07 00:53:00 i don't know a lot on XP but if you where running two operating systems and you could chose between the two at startup you would have a bootloader installed and each OS installed on its own partition.

XP could well have partitioned the drive when you instlled it. partitioning with data on the disk is always risky hence its possible you lost some info.

however glad to see your back to nice stable w2k. when XPsp1 is out it might be a good time to retry XP.

76454 2002-09-07 04:13:00 Just to put my 2cents worth,

I have Windows XP Pro [FAT32] and Windows 2000 [NTFS]. In this situation, we are both kinda alike. Both on the same hard drive and partition, XP being my "System" and 2000 as my "Boot" partition. I haven't experienced any unstability yet, but indeed have noticed some slow sluggish response, esp online using XP. I do like that both operating systems work together, esp booting up with 2000 as its alot smoother. I think this is because of XP's NTDETECT, NTLDR.

You could probably get rid of XP if the partition for it is the "boot" and 2000 as "System"and then use Disk Management to format that portion. Meanwhile make sure you edit your boot.ini file; but 2000 will tell you so.

76455 2002-09-07 04:57:00 Okay I'll say again. You cannot have one partition formatted in both FAT32 and NTFS. You may have had XP and 2000 on the same partition, but there is no way you could have had one as NTFS and the other FAT32, it doesn't work like that. If one was FAT32 and you installed the other onto the same partition, they both would ahve been FAT32. If you then went and converted to NTFS, then they both would have been NTFS.

YES YES YES ... I know this, but like I said. Ah forget it. I'm not wasting my time. I'm getting too infuriated. I'm moving on.
