76419 2002-09-04 10:55:00 I have had IE6 installed on my Win98 machine basically from the day it became available as a download. Over the past month, I have started experiencing regular problems with hanging (Microsoft Internet Explorer Not Responding is the answer I'm receiving).

When this happens I simply click 'End Task' and IE6 closes removing all items from the right hand task bar aside from the 'speaker' icon and the 'Zone Alarm' Icon. Otherwise, the machine continues to function normally. I can even go straight back into IE6 and start surfing again.

I tried the repair option on IE6 which wouldn't initially proceed due to a missing .dll. Once I had located and downloaded the missing .dll from the web the repair option went through its phases but did not resolve the hanging problem.

I haven't installed any new applications on my machine during this time other than a number of registry cleaners. Given the deep drilling some of these applications were capable of I may have removed some key .dll files by mistake but whatever I have done it only causes problems when I'm on the web.

Any ideas?

76420 2002-09-04 12:20:00 I recently found myself taking a similar course of action for a similar problem .

Notwithstanding these attempts IE continued to periodically fall over .

What you might like to consider doing is download and install Adaware from one of the PC World cd's .

I did .

It found a bunch of spyware by some outfit called COMET . I allowed Adaware to remove whatever COMET files it found .

Viola, no more IE problems .

Of course your mileage may differ from mine utilizing this suggestion .
