76772 2002-09-05 22:00:00 i had used partion magic 7.0 to partition my hard-drive into c: & f:
now i need to format c:
would i be able to store important data on f: then format c: and get the data back after installing my o.s again

YES

Formatting a partitioned drive only formats the partition you specify, nothing else,

USUALLY that is computers can stuff up but you should be safe provided you do everything correctly

I take it that you know to go to dos and format c: /s
correct. the /s parameter will put the system files on there so you can boot up to the disk. You should still use a bootable CD or Disk if you have one, as the system files won't know the CD
