| 76644 | 2002-09-05 06:50:00 | I have recently aquired a Unisys monitor, its about 10 years old, and I am trying to work out where I am supposed to plug the monitor to computer cable in to, at the back of the monitor are 4 25 pin slots one is labeled as printer so I can rule that out the other three are labeled Data U TDI Data U RS232 Data T RS232 my guess is the TDI (Terminal data interface??) but there again searching on google TDI has something to do with TC/IP so could someone please help! Second bit is there such a thing as a 9 pin to 25 pin converter cable as i don't have one yet, I am fairly sure I saw plenty of them around 10 or so years ago but I don't seem to be able to find any at the moment. |

| 76646 | 2002-09-05 07:00:00 | I think that what you have there is a terminal , not a monitor. Try a COM port. It should have a keyboard connector (either a "phone" style, or maybe that TDI connector). The 9 to 25 cables (and adaptors) are still available. They are serial cables, and you probably need a null-modem one, if you want to use this unit. BTW, a lot of the Unisys (Burroughs) equipment used EBCDIC code, not ASCII ... which can be a problem. IBM did a lot of that too --- I had one OS/2 documentation file which was in EBCDIC. |

| 76647 | 2002-09-05 07:18:00 | My apologies, I should have said a 15 pin to 25 pin converter cable, I think it may be a terminal as i picked it up from a clearance and all the other "monitors" were most definitly terminals although this one looked like a fairly normal monitor. I have used the FCC number to find that it is VGA and made in Korea in 92 but I cant find anything about the EBCDIC factor so Fingers crossed it won't be a problem, Thanks for all the help so far. |

| 76648 | 2002-09-05 07:34:00 | I don't think that you will find a DB15HD (vga) pin to DB25 cable, and I don't think it will help . The fact that you have 4 DB25 connectors indicates to me that you have the whole electronics of a terminal inside the monitor case . The missing part is a keyboard( which will not be a "standard PC keyboard") . A terminal is a serial keyboard/text display unit . It is a replacement for the old Teletype console . This one can have an attached printer, and perhaps the capability to connect to two (mainframe style) computers . (This configuration was common on the later DEC terminals (VT200 and later) . Its only mode of communication will be RS232 --- it won't be able to take and display video from a PC card . You might be able to get inside and modify it to use only the video monitor, but locating the appropriate connections can be tricky . You can check by turning it on . It will go through a self test routine, and probably complain about the missing keyboard . |
