| 76619 | 2002-09-05 06:31:00 | How do I move my Documents and Settings folder from C: to D: and still have all my user accounts work properly? Or at least key parts of it (such as My Documents etc.). I tried logging in under Administrator and copying the thing over using System Properties > Advanced > User Profiles > Settings, and copying the folder over, then deleting the old one, but on opening an account it just creates a new folder, it doesn't use the current one on the other drive. I know it can be done :) I just can't figure out how. I don't need everything moved over, but preferrably the whole folder for one user especially. Any takers? Mike. |

Right click My DOcuments, and select properties. Then click the move buutton. The location can be any drive or folder of any name. G P |

I'll have a look at TweakUI though... Mike. |

| 76628 | 2002-09-05 10:38:00 | I have my E:\Docs drive set to my documents, but everything else is on C:\Documents and Settings... If I click the My Documents icon on the desktop, word, explorer, anywher, it goes to this folder. There is no MY Documents folder on C:. My girlfriend has her own login, and she has her my documents set to E:\Toni's Docs Same goes here. It changes the registry setting for my docs. The actual key is HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell Folders Then modify the appropriate values topoint to the locations of your choice e.g. My Documents is identified by the "Personal" value. Most of the settings folder can be relocated (I presume you are doing this for backup purposes). I don't bother moving the whole lot. I have a data partition E:\ which I regularly image, and use a WinRAR archive to automate the backing up of the Documents and Stetings folder to the data partition. Takes about 1.5 seconds, and I have an icon on the desktop to do it automatically. It is self extracting for simple restoration. Good Luck G P |
