76537 2002-09-05 02:15:00 My Acer notebook, running Win98, when sitting idle goes into periods of intense harddrive activity - 100% RAM use, but unresponsive to anything. Can run for 5-20 mins, stop, then randomly startup again. How do I stop it/find out what is going on? teft (1764)
76538 2002-09-05 02:56:00 Turn off fastfind if its enabled (look in the startup directory) first.
Have you run adaware to check for spyware/adware? Free from www.lavasoft.com.de.

May I ask what fastfind does? Does it come with all laptops?

76540 2002-09-05 05:51:00 Hey Teft...........Do you have an anti-virus installed on your notebook? If so that could be the problem. Timmy (1727)
76541 2002-09-05 05:56:00 FastFind comes with MS Office, it's an indexing utility that does very little other than cause unnecessary hard disk thrash. antmannz (28)
76542 2002-09-05 06:14:00 I don't seem to have FastFind and can't find anything at lavasoft link teft (1764)
76543 2002-09-05 06:25:00 You're right, that link is dead. Try this (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) one. antmannz (28)

76546 2002-10-08 02:06:00 I have the same problem on an ASUS L8400 Laptop - cannot see any clue after CTR-ALT-DEL in the Task Manager window of what program/process is running at the time - what should FastFind leave there if it is running? DavidJones (258)
