76843 2002-09-05 23:06:00 In keeping up with my caffeine demands, I decided to skip rent this week and splashed out and bought a coffee machine from K-Mart for $25. It's the Black&Decker 15 cup model .

It's taken a bit of messing about getting the coffee/water mixture right, as I have an oversized (400ml) coffee mug. Have got it pretty much right now - and I'll be damned if I'm ever going back to instant!

My only complaint so far is that the coffee coming fresh out of the machine tends to be a tad warmish - I'm used to scalding hot fresh boiled water coffee. Is there a way I can tweak it to bump the output temperature up a little?

76846 2002-09-05 23:16:00 Thats the problem with all coffee machines I have seen, they are based on an american desire for warm coffee...

I remember looking inside one years ago, but the thermostat was a fixed arrangement.

However I like coffee warm-or cold-so it doesnt matter much to me.

76847 2002-09-05 23:23:00 I never said I spent all the rent on a coffee machine :D

Well, piping hot coffee is a must, because I have a large mug, and it takes longer to drink and goes colder a lot quicker if its only warm.

Maybe I could look at insulating my mug...

76848 2002-09-05 23:55:00 anyone remember those fully insulated mugs that came out? only problem was you held a coldish mug that had piping hot coffee in it. good thing was you could have 1 hour old coffee that was still warm. tweak'e (174)
76849 2002-09-06 00:04:00 They recon you are not supposed to have coffee boiling hot.....

My coffee always starts off as hot, but its cold by the time I finish it.

Thinking outside the square, you could always get a smaller cup.......

You can still get them. Actually Nescafe has one on promo at the moment. Very trendy they are in a red annodised finish, with the large Nescafe logo sprawled right accross

76851 2002-09-06 00:14:00 Nuke your coffee after it's been made and before you add chocolate powder/milk/froth/Kahlua/whatever.

Although I do notice that nuked coffee (or anything) goes cold a lot faster than normally heated food/liquid. Can anyone explain this for me. ?:|

In any case, I think you'd be pretty lucky to be able to alter the thermostat setting on a machine that cheap.

76852 2002-09-06 00:15:00 i'm surprised. the ones i've seen the manafacture stopped making. people didn't like useing coffee mugs that stayed cold in their hands. tweak'e (174)
