Electronic Arts have released a patch for their multiplayer demo of Battlefield 1942. The patch incorporates the following changes:
* Support for All Seeing Eye.
* Support for refresh rates higher than 60hz.
* Improved Server stability

Building your own PC
Toms Hardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/) has posted up a guide to building a PC system. It looks at the tough choices involved, going for a complete system, or you can build your own PC, as most complete systems are cheaper than the sum of their parts, when is it really worth it to build your own? Here's a piece of the guide:
Imagine you want to build a new PC and want to use a few remnants from your old system. If you were satisfied with the performance of your CD-ROM drive, hard drive, printer or monitor, then it could be worth it to simply buy the remaining components - you might not even need a new case.
We also hope that this article will reach the individualists among you, i.e., users who know exactly which processor, motherboard and graphics card they want to install, but who just don't know how to fit it all together. The third group of users we want to reach are those people who only want to swap out a component, whether a graphics card or a CPU.

Windows Media 9 Series released
Microsoft has officially released the first beta of Windows Media 9 Series which includes Windows Media Player and Windows Media Encoder. The install packages include the new 9 Series codec's as well and if your a resident of the US you can enter to win a wicked tricked out Alienware PC. Microsoft is touting WM9 breaks new ground in three areas:

Some new addons have been released for Nero
A new bunch of addons have been released for Nero Burning Rom. The addons are:
- NeroPlugin-FXMPG Encoder
- NeroPlugin-mp3PRO Encoder

- NeroPlugin-Nero ASPI Layer
- NeroPlugin-Nero Mix v1.3.029

BearShare 4.0.5 released
A new version (4.0.5) of Bearshare, the file sharing program, is out. BearShare is a file sharing program that lets you share files with other users. It is built on Gnutella technology and provides a simple, easy to use interface that works with all types of files, and lets you search for files that contain specific words or phrases. Windows XP SP1 work-around

AMD Barton-core Athlon XP out in October
Digitimes ( Originally AMD was looking to introduce an upgraded 333FSB version of its existing Athlon XP, but now it will release the barton core with its 333FSB and 512 L2 cache at the same time. The Barton-based Athlon XP will be released in two processors and will offer specifications comparable to those of Intel’s new Pentium 4. WinMX 3.29 Beta 6 released
Version 3.29 beta 6 of WinMX, another file sharing program has been released with the following changes:
-Numerous major and minor bug fixes
-Optimizing of WPNP primary connection engine which should drastically lower CPU usage
-Incompletes are saved upon download initiation (even if zero size)
-Auto Find Sources (AFS) and Auto Enter Queue (AEQ) replaces Auto-Complete system
-Transfer window display and controls re-organized
-Downloads can be collapsed to hide user lines
-Numerous search window refinements
-Numerous browse window refinements
-Language add-on capability allows users to translate all the static text in WinMX into a different language
-Higher shared file limits
-Improved multi-byte character set support
-Two new meta share / search types: "Archive (.zip .iso .exe .rar .r00-99)" and "MP3 + OGG Audio")
-Bandwidth throttle vastly improved, WPNP primary bandwidth better regulated
-SOCKS5 proxy support should now work correctly when pushing FQDNs


New Beta of aTuner version 1.1.9.31
Beta version 1.1.9.31 of aTuner has been released to fix a bug of the previous version always resetting Mip-Map-BIAS. aTuner is a small tweak utility for nVidia based cards that can change the Vsync, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering and MipMap LOD Bias settings.

Ahead InCD version 3.37 Released
Ahead have released a new version of InCD, bringing it up to version 3.37. InCD3 is an integrated packet writing solution that has the most stability, ease of use, and compatibility, across all Windows operating systems. Packet writing is the method of writing data in small increments (by packets) onto a rewritable media.

TMPGEnc 2.58 is now available
TMPEGenc, the AVI conversion program, version 2.58 is out for download. TMPEGenc converts *.AVI file to MPEG1, the format used by VideoCD's. It allows you to adjust bitrate, qantize matrix, GOP structure, Interlace and many other parameter so that you can create most appropriate movie file for your purpose. The new version has the following changes:
ES (Video+Audio)" has been added to stream type in the main window. This mode outputs separate video / audio stream.
System (Audio only)" has been deleted from the list of stream type in the main window. This feature can be done with "simple de-mulitplex" under MPEG Tools.
Video and Audio stream can be outputted separately if user select DVD template at Project Wizard.
Now TMPGEnc has priority of MPEG-2 decoders at VFAPI plug-in priority setting. The priority is fixed and can not be changed by user as follows: 1:Sony 2:Ligos 3:CyberLink
Bugfix: "Prefetch Video" error occurred if Prefetch Video was enabled at Multi-thread setting
At 1st pass of 2 pass VBR, the character "analyzing" is not clickable anymore(since it does not mean anything).
Bugfix: At MPEG Tools, Merge&Cut, TMPGEnc did not treat MPEG-2 files whose colour_description is "0". (FYI, any version of TMPGEnc produces MPEG-2 file whose colour_description is "1".)

Free Bios information tool for download called SMBIOS version 3.01
If your a bit of a tech freak or a sys admin, this program may be something that you're interested in. Majorgeeks has a program called SMBIOS that allows you to display the DMI (Desktop Management Interface) and SMBIOS (System Management BIOS) information in your computer. This information includes the following:
- Serial numbers of component parts (to the extent that they are machine-readable)
- BIOS information (capabilities, version, etc.)
- CPU information (capabilities, version, etc.)
- Slot information
- Physical memory and Cache information
- Port connectors

UT2003 Demo Update
Epic's CliffyB has posted an update on the status of the UT2003 demo. Here's the good dirt:
Menus have been reworked and are being ironed out.
Server browser is almost finished.
We're focusing on testing the maps that are shipping with the demo.

4 maps will be in the demo: (forgive me if this has been posted before)

ANTALUS - DM map in an exterior setting. Beautiful grass, rolling hills, neat rock structures around, etc... ASBESTOS- DM map in a factory style setting.
CITADEL - CTF map - Like Face, but with multiple paths.
ANUBIS - Bombing Run map - tons of fun.

Level Designers are reviewing the AI in their maps to make sure that the bots know how to Shieldgun jump, Translocate, Double Jump, and Low Grav jump to EVERY available spot in their maps.

The single player campaign is being tested and finalized.

The Redeemer is in and fully functional and is very close to being bug free.

All levels are being finalized for ragdoll (low poly) collision.

Extras are being put in. Select a mesh for your player avatar and the voice is now hooked up to announce it. Kill someone with a redeemer and their body goes flying. Sound matches up with the redeemer explosion properly. Mutators are being tested in random combinations with each other. Instagib with zoom and translocator and QUAD jump is quite a kick!

One thing that I'm excited about with the new UT - all of the gametypes will be very fun and viable online. Assault and the original Domination, as much as I love them, had some issues that prevented them from reaching their full potential online. Dom 2.0 and Bombing Run are right up there with CTF and other gametypes!
