76503 2002-09-04 23:58:00 I finally got a reply from Microsoft this morning regarding my melted Office XP CD.

After humming and harrrring, they are going to ship me a new FULL version of Office XP on two conditions...

1) I courier the ruined copy of Office XP (Upgrade) aswell as CD Two etc with the original CD key as proof that I am not jerking their chain.

2) I pay $50 for the cost of the new CD's and postage to Dunedin.

I think this is reasonable as the waranty conditions that came with the CD expressly exclude faults due to accidents (ie my CD-RW frying itself), and the copy only cost me $25 as an upgrade deal with my 2000 purchase.

Will let you know when I get my new copy.

Add on the cost of my new drive, phone calls to M$, and postage for the old copy to Auckland, and the total cost is just under $250. That is $100 less than my insurance would have cost me in excess and loss of no claims bonus, so not bad in all.

76504 2002-09-05 01:54:00 Hey, just a question about the 2000 upgrade to XP... if I have an unopened copy of Office 2000 Pro (from work), can I get that $25 Office XP Pro upgrade?? Or was that some special which was offered a while back...? Lohsing (219)
76505 2002-09-05 02:15:00 Good one....... pity you used the sarcasm in your posting (M$) when you admit that Microsoft have no obligations under your warranty. Baldy (26)
76506 2002-09-05 06:23:00 Lohsing - it was a deal ages ago that has finished.

Baldy - habit I guess.

76507 2002-09-05 06:37:00 And your insurance company have insured themselves pretty well against claims, haven't they? They like money coming in ... Graham L (2)
76508 2002-09-05 06:53:00 Yeah the insurance is only any use if the place burns down, or my entire PC blows up. The problems with being young and living in a shared flat I guess = high premiums and high excess. Graham Petrie (449)
