76509 2002-09-04 23:37:00 I have a new PC with Win XP and MS Office Small Business Edition which does not include PowerPoint as OEM. I understand that attempting to install PowerPoint 97 off my old Office Pro disk is likely to cause conflicts as some of the files in XP have the same names as those in 97 though the content of those files is different. Is there a way to get round this?

Maybe there is an upgrade to XP available from Microsoft.

I saw a copy of PowerPoint XP in a store recently. Would I be better to just buy and install that?

76510 2002-09-05 03:31:00 Hi, I think youll be Ok as long as Off97 files are installed in a different directory. Powerpoint may not need additional tweaks but Excel/Access will if you also want to install earlier versions. See the following link regarding multiple versions of office. it doesnt mention XP but I believe the same rules apply.

76511 2002-09-24 21:58:00 It seems to be incredibly difficult to access someone at Microsoft NZ who can answer simple questions like mine. I rang them on the help line and the lady on the telephone was helpful but not a technician and told me to send an e-mail to their Feedback address. I did so and was basically reprimanded for sending my enquiry there, but the technician then told me what I wanted to know that Powerpoint 97 is 16 bit and likely to make Office XP unstable. They quoted a price of about $900 plus GST to buy PowerPoint XP

So I had the temerity to tell him in a reply e-mail that I knew where I could get a cheap copy of PowerPoint 2000 and would that be ok? However it seems as if the e-mail was not opened and I have had no reply. The whole episode was time consuming and left me a bit peed off with Microsoft's attitude to its customers.

I think PowerPoint 2000 is 32 bit and should be ok. Am I correct?

Microsoft would do themselves a power of good if they would provide a user friendly e-mail address where questions like these could be answered. Maybe it already exists. If so it is well hidden.
