77158 2002-09-06 23:04:00 Hello,

I have a Pentium 3, 733Mhz processor with WinMe installed but I also want to install WinXP on the same computer. Do I have to create a new partition, if so how? Does anyone know of a way I can install WinXP onto my computer?

77159 2002-09-06 23:07:00 You will need another partition.

The easiest way would be to start from scratch, partition your drive using fdisk (I think there's a FAQ about it), and the install Win ME on drive c: (ME has to be on the first drive), and then install XP second onto the other partition.

Just beware - XP likes lots of disk space :)

77160 2002-09-06 23:10:00 I forgot to put (woops), that method will mean you will lose all data on your drive.

To create a partition without losing data you'll need a tool like Partition Magic 7 which can do it for you, however the demo won't do it - you'll have to get a paid version. There may be some free programs out there that'll do it, but I don't know of any.

77161 2002-09-06 23:12:00 Thanks Mike :)

Could you please tell me how to partition my c: drive?

77162 2002-09-06 23:17:00 Thanks Mike

I don't mind if my computer loses data. So can you tell me how to partition c: drive even if it causes my computer to lose all data?

Thanks

77163 2002-09-06 23:30:00 Michael8,

Try reading the FAQs on the subject as they would likely explain it a lot better than I could just now :) The FAQs are found by clicking the FAQ link at the top right of the PressF1 page, or here's links to the two FAQs you will need to read:

pressf1.co.nz do I reformat my Hard drive?[/url]

I hope these help.

77164 2002-09-07 00:37:00 Hi Micheal8

If you are that keen to have XP why don't you just stick with the one OS.

I know you want to have WinME and WinXP, but frankly I don't quite see the point - If it was addition of Linux, that would be a completely different proposition of course.

77165 2002-09-08 14:11:00 I have ME & XP. The reason I keep ME is because XP has problems with some commercial software & my camera. I use XP when I am multitasking with several graphic & web editors on at once. I use ME for the daily chores & Dos programs.

I also have Mandrake Linux 8.2 but so far havn't found a use for it. It's great for wasting time! :-)
