76930 2002-09-06 02:59:00 I have recently managed to uninstall Zonealarm Pro after somewhat of a struggle but I am left with 1.4Gb of files in Windows\internet logs whick I presume are records made by Zonealarm.
The files are all labelled rDB****.TMP where the* represents an alphanumeric identifier. Firstly, how do you read these files?
Secondly, I assume it is quite OK to dump them if they only relate to Zonealarm.
Any comments?

76931 2002-09-06 03:02:00 Umm ... why would you want to read them ?? I guess you could do so by using a text editor if they weren't too big.

And as a rule anything in the Windows\Temp\ folder is ok to be deleted.

76932 2002-09-06 03:04:00 Yes you can delete them, they are ZoneAlarm logs.

Not sure how to read them, have you tried notepad or wordpad?

76933 2002-09-06 04:18:00 I tried wordpad and notepad but both show up mainly rows of squares with occasional letters or words and a few other computer characters.
Whats the point of detailed logs if you can't read them even if you don't have a good reason to do so.

76934 2002-09-06 04:34:00 They might be binary, to keep the size down. They might be DB type files, which look a bit strange. But I don't think that they are stored for your reference. They are probably intended as debugging aids if you maake a bug report. Such files are far more useful in debugging than any user's "memory" of what happened. ;-)

Obviously if they are put in the tmp directory, they are not meant to be kept in the long term.
