It's a way for devices to transfer data directly to memory, without having to burden the CPU (if has to do that, the method is often referred to as PIO, or Programmed Input/Output). If you go to Device Manager (either by right-clicking on My Computer, select Properties, Device Manager, or through the Control Panel | System applet), and pick the drive, click on Properties, there should be a little selection or tick box for DMA. -- Juha |
