| 76839 | 2002-09-06 00:14:00 | Hi all, using nav2002, I have always used liveupdate option, this has worked fine and if there are any updates it usually kicks in about 5mins after going online(and i often know cause Kiwitas posts on here too). Have i misinterpretted how this works? Do i still have to go and do manual checks as well? This morning when i cranked the puter up i got this message thing (like you get for manually updating) saying my definintions weren't up to date - so i went and checked, (by the way liveupdate was still ticked) and there were 3900.0kb of updates i had to get! What i am wondering is, is this normal - i read up on it and it said that if liveupdate was on i would get them? So why didn't i get them thru live update?? I have never had this happen before, could it be a case of them not getting the full download when using live update, but surely it would say that in the popup when its finished instead of saying: You are now up to date!! What are other peoples experiences??? Under definitions it had the exclamation mark and a date of last updated - 22/8/ - so why haven't i been getting them since then?? I am pretty careful anyway, but don't like the thought of not being up to date - but its always worked till now and i have been using nav 2002 since February 02. Or have other people had this happen today too? Thanks ?:| |

| 76840 | 2002-09-06 00:26:00 | "Automatic LiveUpdate automatically checks for updates to your virus protection when you are connected to the Internet. Note that automatic LiveUpdate checks for and retrieves virus definition updates only. To get program updates, you must run LiveUpdate manually." i always run it manually anyway but mayby you could set it to "notify when updates are advailable" and then run it manually when it says there is a def update. |

| 76841 | 2002-09-06 01:28:00 | Thanks tweak'e - so are the updates i got today Program updates? They were - Live Reg, Live Update, Nav 2002, Nav virus definition, Symantec Redirector - They sound like program updates except that virus definition is in amongst them too! and it was virus definition that alerted me to the fact it wasn't up to date - so why didn't that do the normal auto update if its the only one that is supposed to? and do these ones (Program updates)come out alot less often than the normal - i.e as i said i have had nav 2002 since about Feb and its the first time its told me this. Anyway thanks tweake and i will do what you said, but i would like to keep it on "auto live update" as its more convenient as i am always online when i am on the computer and i thought that was the point of liveupdate - to get the updates as soon as they come out. But thanks to you i understand that program updates are NOT done in live update and will now also do manual checks for them - I wonder how many other people do not realise this!! Thanks tweak'e :-) |

Thanks tweak'e :-) OOPS!! I misworded that and would hate to confuse anybody else further, as i now see where my confusion has been caused - I now understand that"Auto live Update" will only update my defs and NOT my program updates. However "Liveupdate" manually run will check for program updates & Defs. Its all in the wording i.e One would assume that "AutoLiveupdate" would just be running "Liveupdate" automatically?? BUT that isn't the case and that is what has confused me and possibly alot of others - I think that it should be worded or named differently personally, as you are not getting "Liveupdate automatically" as in the same thing you get when you do "Liveupdate" manually are you!!! NO - you are getting 2 different things - one checks for defs and one checks for defs and program updates. ?:| Anyway thats my spill for the day - Make sense :^O Thanks heaps again for bringing that to my attention tweak'e!!! |
