77408 2002-09-07 12:57:00 Well it was worth a try - I mean it is late, and I thought maybe you'd missed that :)

I'm installing 8.2 tomorrow, so I'll try to see if I can find something :)

77409 2002-09-07 13:03:00 Couldn't you get around that by changing the volume of whatever sound files it's playing then?

Just an idea.

77411 2002-09-08 03:10:00 I'm pretty sure that you will have the "alsa" sound system software. Try the "Information Center" or whatever your GUI has (KDE?). If you can't find "alsa", here's a link to a HOWTO at the Dunedin LUG mirror (dunedin.lug.net.nz). Have a look at the amixer section ... I think there is actually a manual available online or downloadable (probably at "www.alsa.org/" -- but that's only a guess at a likely url). Google will find it. Graham L (2)
77412 2002-09-08 03:47:00 The KDE sound mixer will be under Multimedia or Sound in the K menu.

If you have a play with the options you can get it to sit on the panel like the windows volume control.
