77565 2002-09-08 04:11:00 Last weekend I deleted a number of applications that started up when using IE 6.026 to connect to the internet. I felt they were slowing the connection down. Until that time , I could close Win 98SE OK. Since then however, Win goes through its normal shutting down sequence but now I do not see the shutdown message - the PC reboots back into startup mode. I have to close the PC down by turning the power off.
Would you be able to help me by telling what setting to change ?

77566 2002-09-08 04:38:00 going from memory do the following:

Go to run;
type in: msconfig
press enter
go to advanced (bottom of the first tab section)
make sure that fast shutdown is disabled. ie ticked box or not

Cheers I hope this helps

77567 2002-09-08 04:40:00 Thats Windows way of telling you that it has encountered a serious error, by doing a restart. Perhaps if you describe what you "deleted" and how you deleted them, it may enable some rationale to be drawn. godfather (25)
77568 2002-09-08 04:44:00 Not sure about all the bits you've deleted

Have you tried "msconfig" "advanced" and made sure that "enable quick shutdown" isn't working

Could also download the patch for Windows 98SE that solves the shutdown problem .

No doubt one of the regular experts will leave a posting which will tell you more .

Hope mine is of some help, don't often get the chance to be helpful . Usually looking for help myself .
