77337 2002-09-07 06:13:00 Hello all

Im using this command line to update only files that have changed bewteen the HD and Zip100 backup

xcopy c:\1cmr\*.* d:\1cmr /s /d

Where 1CMR is the Folder.
Ive noticed that this command does not Include any new files. What command do I need to add to this line to include any new files created in the 1CMR folder or subfolders.

With approx 1900 files stored in 1CMR, backing up only thoes new and changed files, with this batch command reduces backup time from 8 minutes down to less than 2 minutes per day.
I should add, every morning, that days disk is wiped clean, so deleted files from the Hard drive will not show up on the backup.

Thanks.....John

77338 2002-09-07 06:33:00 That batch should automatically catch new files, /s is for subdirectories, /d for only those that have changed. The *.* is all files, so it should see any new ones and copy them (as they don't already exist on d: )

I use *.*, /d /s /y (/y to stop any prompting to overwrite, may not be needed with /d) and mine captures all new files.

Puzzled by your reference to wiping clean....do you mean the zip starts with nothing on it? If so, /d will be meaningless I would have thought, as it compares the date of the file on C with that on D. If none on D then it should copy them all.

Have you checked to see your date/time settings are accuate on both machines?

77340 2002-09-07 12:36:00 perhaps try a \*.* after the D:\1cmr

eg

xcopy c:\1cmr\*.* d:\1cmr\*.* /s /d

This is just a major guess as I haven't tried it :)
