77803 2002-09-08 22:06:00 Hi,

I have tried running win 2K numerous times on my machine but everytime I find my self having to get rid of it and go back to either 98 or ME. The reason been it seems a lot slower than these two OS's. Im pretty sure I have everything setup properly, I have installed many OS's before but 2K just doesn't feel right. I would like to use it since from what everyone tells me it sounds pretty phat.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers Nuts

77808 2002-09-08 22:52:00 128MB is the absolute minimum amount of RAM required to run the OS, so you should just try adding additional modules to speed things along.. honeylaser (814)

Just want to clarify, 128MB is supported but isn't recommended, 256MB for 2k Pro or Server is the recommended min.

77810 2002-09-08 23:03:00 You're probably running more services than you need. I have a K6/2 500 with 256MB RAM and 2000 is running faster than 98. Check out this page.

77811 2002-09-09 02:27:00 You guys all talking in the hundreds of megs of RAM, I've got a 120Mhz Laptop that runs 2k WAY faster than the family PC runs 98, and that's a 933Mhz with 128MB Ram. I didn't know about 2K having Roll-Back?
Try disabling stuff upon startup, like norton anti-virus and real one stuff. That might help, If you are running anything.

77812 2002-09-09 02:29:00 Hey, If you have a Network Car, from what I'm told, letting it specify it's own can slow down boot. Try setting it to 192.168.0.1 if it's not actually using the LAN! Chilling_Silence (9)
