77655 2002-09-08 09:40:00 I have recently discovered the joy of internet radio, I was wondering if anyone can direct me to any niche stations they particularly enjoy

I'll get the ball rolling with the stations I have found to my liking so far

Paradise net hosted streams (www.paradise.net.nz)

Good Variety - Can have a choice of player [I use fav Winamp3]

Vision 100 FM (http://www.vision100.com/)

Good New Zealand Band site With links to buy the CD's you may particularly like - plays by default in Windows Media Player

Cool Blue (http://www.coolblue.co.nz/)

Jazzy/Old School selection - Plays on its own with media player pop up

And the mother load

Radio-Locator (http://www.radio-locator.com/)

Search for Radio Stations everywhere... havn't even scratched the surface here

So, Happy hunting people

77656 2002-09-08 09:57:00 I have always found the sound quality of internet radio a bit on the lousy side. Or is this only with dial-up?

77657 2002-09-08 10:06:00 I can stream 128kbps Mp3s no prob and very ocassional buffering on 192kbps Mp3s while browsing & downloading.

I am on a 256 connection from Walker Wireless, never tried on Dial up as I probably would have thought as you do...

And yes having tried the low bandwidth option, I would rather just listen to the real radio ;-)

77658 2002-09-08 10:36:00 I may regret asking this....
Why label a thread on internet radio "off topic"???

i got a wee bit of time for internet radio, it works OK in my concrete cave, with the irony that i can get internet radio better than say RDU which is the local studenty radio thingy. Still with my 128 k cable connection, i can do the internet radio thing, or i can do something else with my bandwidth, but never both.

77659 2002-09-08 10:42:00 Off topic because I dont need help with it so much as curious about how wide spread its use was "out there" as well as interested in what sort of musical tastes were whetted only via internet radio...

for instance I am listening to the German Jazz station hosted locally on Paradise.net and getting the chance to practice my very rusty german skills on the ads :-)

Also recruiting free help in finding niche site ;-) the internet is a big place after all...

77661 2002-09-08 11:08:00 Nice terry Thanks.

I have a problem with the first link, it requires installing chaincast proxy, which was no problem... but apparently win XP doesnt support the Java Virtual machine required to run it... I will see what I can do about that...

but as for the other 2 excellent selections & as for the popups

Akiller (www.buypin.com)

trainable protection ;-)

77663 2002-09-08 11:20:00 well, aparently the "Big 5" or whoever, was trying to shut down internet radio. Dial up SUCKED when I last tried, but if u r doing 128K, it's pretty good! there's virgin free radio or whatever, that was good when they used that at work! look it up in google.. unsure of the URL.

Cheers
