78015 2002-09-09 13:28:00 I keep trying to send info about some spam attacks I am getting to hotmail with a full copy of the mail recieved as well as all the internet headers and they send me this

"Unfortunately, we cannot take action on the mail you sent us because it does not reference a Hotmail account. Please send us another message that contains the full Hotmail e-mail address and the full e-mail message to:"

so I send it again with everypiece of info they say is not there (just like the last time) and get the same message

and on and on and on. Does anybody at hotmail actually read any of the emails sent to abuse@hotmail?? Is there any way I can actually get them to do what I want (stop the spam) that any of you know about? Or is this just standard microsoft practices (protect the spammers)?

78016 2002-09-09 13:37:00 I don't think you will get any joy out of MSN..... I thought it was common knowledge that they actrually sell your Hotmail addy to help provide a "free" email service.

I have given up on Hotmail. Just get all my mail from my Xtramail.

78017 2002-09-09 13:59:00 free email is a dime a dozen...

i have no problems with my @eudoramail.com address, and my better ½ has no problems with her @windows-sucks.com address.

i think theres a heap of free NZ based ones, including the one you can get if you join the orcon.net.nz community, with allows pop3 email access

If hotmail sucks.....................

sorry about my insomnia, and resulting illiteracy

The free e-mail@orcon.net.nz does allow pop3 access

01:11, am sending myself a 2.1MB file, just to see if it bounces (click)
la la la la-la oops theres 2 going... must have done something silly when i fixed the address of the one in the out box..

01:15 and now it's sending another one... boy did i stuff up!

01:19 now lets see if it bounced (pressing send receive now)
O looky 2 messages!

01:23 first is in
01:27 second one in
both 2.1 meg files emailed perfectly, and were received by my email client without problem

How does that compare with hotmail then?

78019 2002-09-09 22:07:00 as far as I know, Hotmail/MS will only take action against someone who is actually spamming from a hotmail account. They don't care about other SPAM, and don't see it as being their problem. that said, just because you receive an email saying that its from a hotmail address, it doesn't necessarily mean it is. If Hotmail/MS go through to find that the account does not exist, and that the real address has been masked, they won't bother with it. honeylaser (814)
78020 2002-09-09 23:44:00 Thanks people. It's as I thought. Bugger all I can do.

By the way I do not have and never will have a hotmail account. I am just getting heaps of spam via Hotmail accounts. I am taking it into my own hands now and will track and attack the server sending this crap myself.

78021 2002-09-10 00:10:00 I have Mailwasher, and when I get spam, I just bounce it back!

I have noticed in the last few weeks a number of emails arriving with a masked sender field - either no-name or a two symbol sender - which dosen't allow me to bounce.

If you are getting a lot of spam, I would consider Mailwasher. Its excellent, and a freeware product!

78022 2002-09-10 00:18:00 most of the spam i've been getting lately has been claiming to come from yahoo addresses.

I was thinking of blocking anything from yahoo.com, and hotmail.com, which is something you can do in the rules of Outlook express,
but thhe trouble with that is that i know someone who actually uses a @yahoo address, same for hotmail...

mind you, i haven't had mail from them for some time now.

78023 2002-09-10 00:19:00 Yeah, but what about the poor sod who didn't actually send you the spam but whose email addy was used? He goes and gets the bounce messages when he's innocent. I don't think many major spammers really get any of those bounce messages ..... Biggles (121)
78024 2002-09-10 00:29:00 I think that if any spam is delived using some poor sods actual real address, that is the end of that address, the mailbox will be flooded with bouncing spam, faked of otherwise, and abuse from people asking to stop it, and even people replying saying "yeah, and send it in plain packaging please"... mailwasher might take a extra few minutes from the time between the spam drop, and the flooding of the mailbox it was supposed to have come from.
