2002-09-10 03:20:00 | Hi there I have a jetway 531CF motherboard with AMD K6 II 500Mhz processor, and 64Mb RAM (PC133). I would like to upgrade RAM to 512MB. Is it possible to upgrade the RAM?

If you were using double sided (two bank) then you need to find which slot accepts it. If using 2 single sided sticks then its likely it wouldnt be slot sensitive. Take your manual when you buy the RAM. If you havent got a manual search on google for one. |

2002-09-12 00:26:00 | Godfather... I have the same motherboard (531CF, AMD K6 II, 500 MHz with SIS 530/5595 chipset) and I want to upgrade to a more current CPU & motherboard in stages e.g. 1800 AMD or similar (ecomomics!). Would a later motherboard that supports a 1800 AMD (currently in PC stores) be able to work with my current AMD K6 II? Then I can buy the 1800 CPU much later. In fact don't know if a higher spec CPU would offer much to me...but just want to keep ahead.. ...Also I have found a BIOS update for my 531CF dated about 2 years after I purchased my PC(at www.elementsPC.com or similar). Is there any real advantage to "flash" up the 531CF BIOS ?why do so in any case ?... Your thoughts, like before, much appreciated....

2002-09-12 00:40:00 | in short, no. k6-2 is socket 7 while 1800AMD is socket A. won't fit. totally different design. to upgrade you will need new mobo, cpu, ram(ddr), case, powersupply, heatsink and mayby keyboard as well. >Is there any real advantage to "flash" up the 531CF BIOS ?why do so in any case ?... they usually state what fault it fixes. if you don't have that problem then don't bother.

2002-09-12 00:44:00 | The sockets are different, as I think K6 is socket 7, and 1800+ is socket A? Check it out on the web. Wont fit if thats the case, even with a hammer. Re BIOS: Unless you have problems which the BIOS upgrade rectifies DON'T DO IT! You run a risk of making your motherboard into a floor tile, if the BIOS flash doesn't work.
