| 78459 | 2002-09-11 08:04:00 | I need help... PLEASE... I've recently finished upgrading my computer and the last thing left to do is the video/graphics card. Info about computer. Motherboard - MSI-5169 Socket 7 Motherboard ALI chipset. CPU - AMD K6 - 550 Bus Speed - 100mghz RAM - 256 megs PC100 Operating System - Windows ME - Thinking of upgrading to Windows XP Current Video/Graphics Card - S3 Trio 3D/2X 8mb AGP. Because of the bus speed that my computer is running at, I have been told that there are no current cards that would be compatible with the current system. I don't want to buy a new computer as I've just finished apart from above upgrading this one and it is running very sweetly for me. Is there anybody out there who can give me some advice as to the types of cards that I could run. on this computer. I have been told that my computer is to slow for the following - TNT2 M64 - Type cards Any of the G-force cards. I would like to upgrade to a 32mb Video card but don't have a small fortune left ot purchase one. I would also like it to have its own heatsink and cooling fan. Many Thanks |

| 78460 | 2002-09-11 11:22:00 | I have put a tnt 64 in my wife's P2 350 with a 100mhz frontside bus and it works very well so I cant see any problems with you putting one in yours with the specs you have it should work just fine , another option would be one of the savage cards, but they are a lot more finiky as far as conflicts are concerned. I would stay with a tnt64 for stability. | allan.anderson (1848) | ||
| 78461 | 2002-09-11 11:30:00 | having had a similar system it will be maxed out with a tnt2 pro. a tnt2 m64 with a bit of overclocking is ok or a geforce2mx woud be sweet. however being an ali chipset i would check for driver problems first. |

| 78462 | 2002-09-12 05:01:00 | Thanks for your prompt reply. Further to my gospell off last night I have since been offered a Powercolor Geforce 256 with TV out. It is a 32mb AGP. Do you think that this will work. The guy that is selling it is running a Gigabyte motherboard with ALI chipset and the only problem that he says he has with it is that it wont work properly with the game Quake 3 Arena. I await your reply, Also what do you think would be a good price to pay for a card with the specs mentioned above. Once again Many Thanks, |
