78436 2002-09-11 04:58:00 I just installed a new graphics card yesterday, and I think it is interfering with my soundcard / speakers, as I get hash coming through them when I am playing mp3s and I do things like:
> moving the mouse rapidly around the screen,
> (relatively) processor intensive stuff like compiling applications or running photoshop filters,

However it doesn't seem to be affecting my sounds in dungeon siege or the thps3 demo on the pc world cd.

My system is:
> duron
> winXP Pro
> 256mb RAM
> 7200rpm 80gb hdd

my card is:
> PixelView
> nVidia geForce mx 420 with tv-out
> 64mb DDR RAM

I have made no other changes to my system config except this, and my sound was working fine two days ago.

Any assistance appreciated,
markOS X.

right click My computer, go to Manage and then click on Device Manager.
Look for anything that has an exclamation mark next to it. Let me know what you find

78439 2002-09-11 05:39:00 I just read that due to the power drain of hi spec video cards it is preferable to have a power supply >= 350 watts.

At the mo' i'm running 230 watts, so could this be my problem??

cheers,

78440 2002-09-12 09:40:00 Hey, if there is someone out there who isn't busy sending off-topic messages, i'd appreciate some assistance!!!

Press F1 used to be a good site with helpful people, but i'm not getting much help at the moment. This graphics card prob is really irritating, and I thought that i'd find some technical kingpin here who could tell me what the story is???

Any assistance appreciated,
markOS X.

78441 2002-09-12 10:17:00 You don't tell us what Duron processor you are using.

You don't tell us what sound card you have.

You don't tell us what operating system you use.

Have you loaded the latest drivers for the Video and Soundcard you have?

Have you updated the BIOS?

I think you will find people here only too willing to help.

We here are not mind readers. ( At least I'm not)

We need the answers to be able to help.

If you want to throw a wobbly then I doubt you will get ANY help!!

78442 2002-09-12 10:23:00 Ooops... Just noticed that you are running WinXP....

Try making sure that you have the right drivers for the sound card.

Having a 230 watt power supply will not help at all but I don't think that is the cause of the problem. For ALL AMD CPU's I install I put in at least a 320 Watt power supply... Sometimes even 420 Watts.

I hope this helps

78443 2002-09-12 10:25:00 it sounds like a werid driver glitch. clean out the drivers and install the latest detornators.

have you install XPsp1?
