| 78429 | 2002-09-11 04:27:00 | I/We recently bought an AMD computer. Recently I installed a network card into it and have been trying to make a network between it and a laptop. In the laptop i have an IBM Turbo 16/4 Token Ring PC Card 2 which is in the PCMCIA slot. I am have been try to get these to work together after being told by the person who sold the Pcmcia card that there should be no problems. I have tried everything i can think of to get them working together, ( different ip's same subsnet mask same workgroup etc) and i thought i had done it when XP told me that the network connection is active. Then about 10 seconds later it disconnected. It keeps connecting disconnecting etc. However when it is connected i can't see the laptop connected. I have tried everything i can think of and have read countless hours of information on the net about both the token ring adaptor networking and every other relevant topic all to no avail. I now think that the token ring adaptor isnt compatible/can't function as an pcmcia ethernet card. My question is am i right in say this even thought the guy who i bought it from said it would work. If it is compatible could you please advise me how to 'fix' the connection so it is connected permanently. The computer is a AMD 1.8ghz running XP and the Laptop is a Celeron 500mhz running windows 98. could it be that the OS aren't compatible. I don't have a clue so could you please advise me. | helpmeplz (1846) | ||
| 78430 | 2002-09-11 04:45:00 | Check the FAQ. A few things, Share both HDDs at the Root, It's okay if only you'll be using it, and you can always change it later! Set one IP to 192.168.0.1 and the other (Pref the Laptop which isn't running XP) to 192.168.0.2 Cheers Chilling_Silence |
