78381 2002-09-11 01:35:00 For some reason my power management settings have stopped working. I have checked the control panel settings, and also the screen "properties" settings, which I guess are actually the same thing. Is there something hidden which I have neglected? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

78382 2002-09-11 01:38:00 What kind of computer are you using? What speed/RAM/how old is it? What Operating system are you using? Is it a laptop or a desktop?

78383 2002-09-11 02:43:00 By "Stopped Working" I take it you mean that it once did work!
Right-Click your Desktop and select Properties
Goto Screen Saver.
Select Power down the bottom.
That's power Management, and If your PC supports APM (Advanced Power Management) select the APM tab and click Enable!

78384 2002-09-11 04:46:00 In your Control Panel is the Power Management applet visible? (I'm using Win98SE BTW so what you see might be different if you're using another version of Windows). If you can access that you can choose various power schemes or tailor one for yourself. Have you managed to do this previously? Have you set up a scheme but it is no longer functioning (apparently)? There are some programs that will interfere with the power settings for the hard drive shutting down and may prevent the drive turning off. Have you installed any software recently that may have coincided with the non-functioning power settings? Rod J (451)
78385 2002-09-11 04:55:00 You should be able to edit it and chop and change the setting to whatever suits (Power Management in Ctrl-Panel). Chilling_Silence (9)
78386 2002-09-11 06:16:00 Am I getting mixed up, or this this feature related to the "LoadPowerProfile" in msconfig's Startup?

If I'm not way off track then maybe it isn't ticked to load at Startup.

78387 2002-09-11 06:39:00 Susan B you may be on the right track, I will look into this. To answer an earlier poster, my computer is a TPG P3/500 with 512MB ram & running WinXP Home. I have previously had no problems with power management settings, but have recently had to reload everything, as I discussed in a previous post about backups, for which Jen C provided an admirable solution. Perhaps as Susan B suggests, something is missing.

78388 2002-09-12 01:29:00 Can't find "LoadPowerProfile" in MSconfig. Any idea where this file may otherwise live?
