Here's a cut from the article: "Dr Croft said radiation from a mobile phone increased alpha waves in the brain, giving the brain a bigger workload . The study, to be published in Clinical Neurophysiology, shows also that the longer the phone call, the more the brain's function is impaired . "People assume the only task is them talking, but it's actually making your brain work less efficiently," Dr Croft said yesterday . | 78339 | 2002-09-10 21:43:00 | > LAN Party Etiquette at Bjorn3D What an eye opener! Are there heaps of people stupid/rude enough to commit these Faux Paus? Particularly #1? Unbelievable! I'd love to know whether culprits get a hiding or just get no more invitations. What about knocking a beer all over someone's keyboard? Doesn't that happen or not happen a lot? I would have thought it to be a reasonably common occupational hazard. |

| 78341 | 2002-09-10 22:34:00 | It's all your fault tweak'e, I've got work to do and that site is rather interesting . . . Boring computer industry I just can't much remember a time when the computer industry was so BORING! Besides the new ATI cards, has there been any real shocking developments at all? Let's look at the exciting news from the last few months: AMD came out with a new clock speed of the Athlon XP . Intel will be releasing a higher-clocked version of the P4 the next week . AMD chips that were green are now purple . Motherboards with the latest VIA chipset are starting to be reviewed . It's no faster than VIA's last chipset, which was no faster than the VIA chipset before that, which was only marginally faster than the VIA chipset before that . . . Some are red, some are purple . Tom's has a motherboard roundup comparing 14 boards with the latest VIA chipset . Some are purple, some are red . Most have active north bridge cooling, some don't . Most have AMR/CNR risers for which there is absolutely no use, some don't . Anand has a roundup of 14 nVidia boards . Some are purple, some are red . Most have heatsinks on the RAM, some don't . Some have slightly larger heatsinks than others . New detonators are out . The same drivers can be used on purple or red nVidia cards (testing still ongoing on green) . Some obscure site you've never heard of has yet another heatsink/fan roundup of three products you've never heard of before . Some are aluminum, some are copper . Some other obscure site you've never heard of has a do-it-yourself case window and cold cathode lighting article . They do this because it's very exciting to be able see that ever-so-dynamic motherboard of yours during LAN parties, and savings for your retirement/children's education is overrated . Some are blue, others are blue . Some other obscure site has an article about how to safely spray-paint your video card, in case you bought a red one to go with your purple motherboard by mistake (though it would all look purple anyway with the blue cathode light) . Maxtor is now delivering drives supporting their new ATA bus standard . With now double the bandwidth, the new bus is a full 10 times faster than any drive can currently sustain data transfer, which is a 100% increase over the five times faster than we were seeing before, so you know you must buy it, and it will be heavily touted and listed as a major reason to upgrade your mainboard . The new drives will ship with rounded cables . Some are red, some are purple . Some other site has a do-it-yourself CPU water cooling article . This allows you to spend $300 and overclock your CPU to speeds that could have only been achieved before by spending an extra $100 on a higher-rated CPU . Some other site has a do-it-yourself water-dyeing article . This allows you to color the water of your CPU cooling system to have it match or complement your red/purple motherboard and video card . Honestly, for some excitement in the computer industry I've had to stick with surfing techbargains and techdeals to buy stuff I don't need for almost nothing . At least it's challenging! Seems like everything is just a sea of sameness these days . . . |

| 78342 | 2002-09-10 22:43:00 | Oh, and in case you are wondering what "bargains" that guy picks up, this will make you green (prices in $US): * * * * * * * * * * Hmmm, let's see . . . Well, I picked up a 32x12x40 CenDyne burner at OfficMax, was $20 after rebates, and there was a 2nd rebate for a free portable CD player with purchase . Funny, I have almost enough parts for 4 complete systems . So I though, just a few more parts and I can put one together for my mother-in-law (so she can be scared of it and not use it) . Anyway, one thing I needed was a CD-ROM . With the readers going for >$20 each online anyway, why not pick up the writer (plus 50 CD-Rs for free after rebate), and give mom one of my old CD-ROMs and keep the burner for myself (not that my old 12x wasn't fast enough) . I also jumped on the $9 . 99, 40GB, 7200RPM Maxtor hard drive deal from office depot . That should be arriving today . More hard drive is always good, especially at that price . Also snagged one of those Lenny Kravitz CDs that Delta (?) was giving away . I bought a KT333 motherboard from NewEgg, but it was DOA so now I've got to send it back . Bummer . But, when you consider a 40GB HDD, 32x burner, portable CD-ROM, 50 CD-Rs, a motherboard, and a Lenny Kravitz CD all together under $100 (assuming all the rebates come through), you can see why techbargains . com is my home page! * * * * * * * * * * They have it pretty good over there, don't they? |
