78916 2002-09-12 11:12:00 after scheduling chkdsk /f with xp, i rebooted but received an error "unable to read folder (null)" at 67% and now chkdsk runs every time i boot with the same error. heellppp!!! shaawing (1863)
78917 2002-09-13 04:51:00 I'm not a Windows expert, but since no-one else has answered you yet, I will push out a suggestion and the experts will correct me if I'm wrong.

First, unschedule chkdsk! I assum that it is failing, and then allows XP to run normally. If not, boot to safe Mode and then unschedule it.

Run it manually, and see what happens. It may be something odd about running as an "unattended" scheduled task.

78918 2002-09-14 01:26:00 thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, because I'm checking the main system partition, Xp has to shut down and restart so that it can check the locked files while it isn't running so I'm guessing it just loads only what is necessary to run the check disk program. Therefore, it isn't possible to run the check manually that I know of is there??

78920 2002-09-15 09:21:00 I don't know too much about Win XP, but isn't chkdsk a DOS program. You don't have an autoexec.bat file lurking somewhere which is loading the program? kevinL (1785)
78921 2002-09-15 09:23:00 XP does not have DOS, only an emulation of it under XP, and that is the problem...If the HDD is formatted as NTFS, I wonder if an older dos boot disk would do it either? godfather (25)
78922 2002-09-15 16:52:00 file system is fat 32, i booted into win2k (which is installed on other part) and run disk check on xp part which gave error something like "hdd 0 has bad block". Then went to seagate site, downloaded hdd diagnostic and run test. this told me basically that my hard drive had major errors and to send in for replacement. lucky its still under warranty ay. shaawing (1863)
