78758 2002-09-12 04:45:00 When on email or web my dial up connection breaks after about 30 mins
Can anyone suggest causes?

78759 2002-09-12 04:55:00 Yeah...there could be a number of causes for this problem...firstly what kind of modem are you using? Some win-modems (a winmodem is a modem that relies on the computer processing power to correct all the errors in bad data packets etc. that passes through the modem; sometimes called a software modem) can disconnect alot for, it seems like, no apparent reason. I know someone that whenever he puts a load on the modem eg. downloading, it disconnects. Another one of these causes may include a noisy telephone line. An electric fence nearby, an airport nearby, or a cel phone mast can all be causes of a noisy line. To check that telecom will run free of charge a line check. Do you have any other telephones; double adaptors; fax'es'; or answer machines on the same line as the internet?

Come bak wif the answers and ill see what i can tell you :-)
Cheers

In Outlook Express tools/Options/Connections.

78761 2002-09-12 06:37:00 Sometimes people can double logon into a network, meaning 2 pc connect to the same ACCOUNT. And after (usually 5min) it disconnect itself.
If everything you tried didn't solve your problem, maybe changing password is another way to go.

Is that 30mins after you connect, or after 30 minutes of inactivity?

if it is the latter, you will be displeased to know that many ISPs disconnect if idle, particually at peak times when there is looking like a shortage of modem connection points

78764 2002-09-12 21:45:00 Hi Yops, have you got this months PC World? On pg 97 there is a brief article mentioning reviving dead connections.

choose start-run then
For Xp/2000 enter ipconfig /renew
For Win98SE/ME enter ipconfig /renew_all

I havent tried it myself but give it a shot :-)
