78891 2002-09-12 11:03:00 I have a MSI Dragonwriter 40x12x40 CD Re-writer that works perfectly in WinME, but in Win2K Pro, I can not get past the first stage of the burn process. Just after the lead in/lead out, the cd is ejected, the burner locks & Windows locks. I can halt the process using the task manager but any attempt to restart Nero brings up a message saying InCd is using the drive, even if InCd was not loaded at boot time. Nothing is written to the disk.

Very frustrating. I want to try out Win2k as my daily OS because I've heard it's heaps more stable than Win98/ME, which I've been using up till now, but little faults like this will put a stop to my plans very quickly.

I would use WinXP, but it doesn't like multi booting with Linux or other Windows versions as every time I booted into WinXP after a linux/other session, it found new hardware, another annoying fault (or is it a feature?). Another reason I dont use WinXP is I simply do not like their media player. I see no reason for having flashy circles & junk like that posted to the screen when playing a sound or music file. Neither do I accept their media rights management, or their product activation as I like to keep my hardware up to date.

78892 2002-09-12 11:09:00 You don't metion the version of Nero - update your version first if not 5.5+ Merlin (503)
78893 2002-09-12 12:05:00 I have got version 5.5.8.1. I erroneously presumed people would automatically realise a 40X12X40 cd burner would come with the latest available software. It's only been out for around 6 weeks. mikep (1856)
78894 2002-09-12 12:28:00 lol 6 weeks is a long time for the net

go here for some updated news (pressf1.co.nz)

i don't use w2k but i do know there are some aspi driver issues with it. nero has a driver download on their site as well which might be of use.

78895 2002-09-12 13:02:00 I have Nero 5.5 with a 24x10x40 CDRW Lite-on-It drive with Win2k + SP3. Have had no probs - sorry I can't help. :p

I absolutely love Win2k - it's only crashed about 5 times in 5 months and it has usually been my own fault with tweaking CPU and AGP etc. :)

78896 2002-09-12 17:12:00 What are you using? Nero by itself or InCD as well? - and if InCD what version? 3.37?

And while I'm asking, what sort of media? once only or rerecordable?
