1289329 2012-07-18 10:38:00 It seems that the major games publishers are all being very stingy, only funding micro-transaction based games and AAA overpriced games. Even a sequel to Defense Grid (which all the publishers agree would be profitable, just not profitable enough for them) is not enough to convince publishers to fund development, so they have turned to kickstarter.

Do you think the Steam Greenlight for exposure & Kickstarter for funding model could result in new indie devs being able to create games with quality graphics & music to go with the gameplay & story, or will it only be successful for relatively well known devs who are unable to score a deal with a traditional publisher?

1289331 2012-07-18 10:45:00 What? Are you going to develope an indie game and get it funded off kickstarter? stratex5 (16685)
1289332 2012-07-18 11:12:00 I'm not about to develop a game, but I have been noticing a lot more high quality indie games have been released over the past couple of years, and I am curious to see what will happen to the indie scene now that the publisher money has dried up. Valve does a lot to help indie developers, but I don't think they actually go as far as funding 3rd party games.

I am hopeful that Kickstarter can fill the gap left by the overly cautious publishers, but we will have to wait & see. I expect the Hidden Path Entertainment kickstarter project will be successful, but if it isn't, that won't bode well for others trying to follow in their footsteps.

1289335 2012-07-19 03:18:00 The new caramageddon game is being funded by Kickstarter as well, I forget what there target was but I believe they exceeded it.

Part of it was getting the original game released on gog.com, Im sure when this comes online it will bring in some big cash, well, I'll buy it anyway so theres 10 bucks.

Yeah, so?

Do you think it will ever happen?
I don't.

Budgets for recent games are touching on $100,000,000 - a hundred million dollars!
That is insane!

I would like to see what they will do with their 3 million.
