1289026	2012-07-17 01:23:00	Son ran his '96 Corolla (motor 2e) out of water. Water spewing out of the 3rd cylinder, plug wet as. Head gasket or dead you reckon? Haven't taken the head off yet, can't find a 2E motor or part of anywhere.	pctek (84)
1289027	2012-07-17 02:01:00	Sounds pretty bad, although I've done a couple of home head gasket jobs on a 2e and they're pretty straightforward. I got my gaskets from Repco - make double sure that you have the right on as they gave me the wrong one once - the water jacket holes didn't all line up properly (it was appeared to be right but didn't notice a couple of the holes were blocked) and it blew again shortly afterwards...! Problem is it sounds fairly bad from the way you have described it, could have wrecked more than just the gasket - you'd have to get the head tested etc. Is there much water in the oil? Second hand 2e off Trademe maybe? They do pop up fairly regularly.	Bener (16838)

1289029	2012-07-17 04:48:00	Alloy heads can warp when overheated and even planing doesn't always work. But it's worth taking the head off and having a look, as long as the bores aren't damaged a head gasket ought to work at least temporarily. A bigger concern might be how long it ran without water, how hot it got, and what else it did to the motor. The temperature gauge doesn't function without water, something I learnt myself as a youngster. Going back a fair while I had a Mazda 929 that kept blowing gaskets between 1 and 2 despite multiple attempts at fixing, planing the heads etc but a new gasket would give me 2-3 months especially if I used a good quality one so I just kept patching it until I saved enough for a better car.	dugimodo (138)
1289030	2012-07-17 04:49:00	Its ******. Yes. Should know better - it's never just a gasket. The heads cracked. Bought one from Ch/ch......seems there's a shortage of Corollas at the wreckers these days....they're being exported to Dubai so says two of them...............	pctek (84)
