1313113 2012-11-20 07:38:00 It must have been during an update that I neglected to deselect one of it's (EAC's) default options.

Here's a new question, Now that I have downloaded the .Net files, (having deleted the old ones), the installer wants to no where I want them extracted to.!?

1313114 2012-11-20 19:27:00 So, you've use the tool, and its removed all of the net installs?? Go back to Windowsupdate and let it install the updates. Because if you install them in the wrong order, you'll be starting all over again Speedy Gonzales (78)
1313115 2012-11-21 02:17:00 I had the identical problem to the OP on my wife's computer. That PC has been causing problems for quite some time (excessive slowness, terrible response times) and I couldn't identify or solve whatever was causing this. I used the "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool" (thanks for the steer), and got rid of v's 3.5 and 4.0. Not long after I finished, Windows Update fired up and successfully installed two security updates. Not only that, the problems with the PC seem to have gone away... Coincidence? No other applications seem to have been impacted by removal of those two versions of Net. Framework. John H (8)
1313116 2012-11-21 05:23:00 Win.update doesn't seem to be aware that .NET Framework is missing from my system! There are 2 .NET Framework files among the optional updates, 1.1, 4 and 3.5 sp1 which was not removed from my system. Vince (406)
1313117 2012-11-21 06:10:00 Do any net framework installs / updates appear in add/remove programs then?? If they do uninstall them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1313118 2012-11-21 09:14:00 Vince, I had that problem some months back, I have XP SP3 as you do, a phonecall to xtra help solved it - do as Speedy says 'cause thats exactly what the help did - otherwise get on the phone, cheers jayal (1291)
1313119 2012-11-22 00:42:00 I installed everything windows update was offering, 100 MB download.
When I went back for an update that had to be installed separately,
I found 8 .NET Framework files waiting to be downloaded!

There were 2 updates for .NET Framework 1.1 sp1 waiting for me this morning, which installed flawlessly.

I think the problem is solved.
As a bonus, I now have an up to date Internet explorer which doesn't cause my programs to stop working.
Thanks for your help:clap:clap

1313120 2012-11-22 00:50:00 Sweet you have to be careful with some of the later versions of net framework. It does say you HAVE to install some separately from other versions. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1313121 2012-11-23 08:14:00 Windows update won't let you install both at the same time, or in the wrong order. Vince (406)
1313122 2012-12-02 06:07:00 IT pros always just say "install windows updates" instead of saying "i don't have a clue" JAYMCG (16946)
