1312742 2012-11-15 21:33:00 The router interferes with your phone or the phone interferes your Internet?

Which channel are your using?

1312744 2012-11-15 22:11:00 Which is exactly what I did. I dont know if my old phones were causing the prob. But beside the old phones (then) is a wireless printer. And when it was on, after so long (2-3 mins) while you were talking it started to echo.

Probably didn't help, when the 2 pcs here also use wireless (USB adapters), and the Xbox is also wireless (the Xbox and the computers are in a bedroom). The printer and modem are in the lounge.

But since I've replaced the phones with a pair of Panasonic 1.8 ghz handsets, t hasn't happen

1312745 2012-11-15 22:22:00 I have a new Xdect Uniden phone which they say is Wi Fi friendly.

1312746 2012-11-16 03:02:00 How close are the router and the base station for the phone? seperating them as much as possible can be helpful. I've never even checked frequencies and I have two cordless phones and wi-fi and various wirless devices and it all just works :) I know one phone is dect and sitting about 1.5M from the router and the other is an old panansonic that pre-dates dect and is on the other side of the house. dugimodo (138)
1312747 2012-11-16 03:52:00 I have a Dynalink RTA1025W router & Uniden XS1215 2.4GB phone.
If the modem is in the same room as the phone base, the wireless disconects if the phone is used.

1312748 2012-11-16 04:08:00 Buy a 'WiFi friendly' phone. Uniden's WiFi friendly ones generally run on 1.8GHz, which keeps you away from the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz consumer wifi gear runs on, and in theory should give you slightly better penetration through walls etc, although YMMV.

I recently bought one of these.

1312749 2012-11-16 04:23:00 My cordless phone is very WiFi friendly as it operates around 90Mhz or something.

My other phones are corded and have even less of an impact.

1312750 2012-11-16 07:30:00 There is a harmonic relationship there. The 3rd harmonic of 2.4GHz is 7.2GHz and the 4th harmonic of 1.8GHz is 7.2GHz.

The phone is probably more powerful than the wifi, and digital signals are rich in sideband harmonics, so I'd try changing the channel used on the phone or the wifi if either gives that option.

At what distance between the two items does the interference stop?

Cheers

1312751 2012-11-16 20:22:00 You sound very knowledgeable. I don't think there is an option for changing channels on either the phone or the router.
The phone base is about 15 meters away from the router although I have a wifi repeater about 5 meters from the phone base.
One of the problems is that I have 4 phones spread around the house so I don't really want to have to buy 4 more! I used to have a hard wired router and had no problems but since I bought an IPad I need the wifi.
Am currently just pulling out the power lead from the wifi except when I want to use the internet - damn nuisance!
Thanks for your input
