1312570 2012-11-15 03:48:00 As Iantech commented, chkdsk and sfc, will scan the system files and data on a drive.

You can tell chkdsk to scan for bad sectors as well. If you go into My Computer, right click the HDD, Properties /tools/error checking, theres two options, check the disk ( which is chkdsk) and check /recover sectors ( words to that effect). It will take longer as its then checking the whole Drive, not just data/ system files.

Sometimes its helps, other times it wont, theres no real " this is the problem" result.

Any hardware, no matter how old can and will play up at anytime.

So can just do that from safe mode desktop don't have to go through command prompt. Cant look at moment its turned off
