1313093 2012-11-18 01:11:00 I have had first 1, now 2 windows updates insisting repeatedly to be installed, yet they consistently fail the installation process.

A dialogue pops up saying, "Some updates could not be installed."
These are the ones.

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656370)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2698023)

I am running XP. SP3
I have let this process repeat its self dozens of times and restarted my computer at least 20 times, to no avail.
What can I do?

1313094 2012-11-18 01:18:00 What error code/s come up when updates fail?? Those updates can be a PITA with XP. Because sometimes they can get corrupt over time. In the end, you need the net framework removal tool, to remove all of those files / and their updates. And you have to reinstall them all over again. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1313095 2012-11-18 01:27:00 Try and reinstall KB867460 (.net 1.1 sp1), make sure you select Yes when it indicates it is already installed and asks if you want to reinstall. Then try KB2656370 and KB2698023 again.

KB867460 (.net 1.1 sp1) can be found here www.microsoft.com

1313097 2012-11-18 03:57:00 There are no error codes, just the information I supplied Vince (406)
1313098 2012-11-18 06:34:00 did you try reinstalling net 1.1 sp1 as I suggested - this apparently fixed a lot of people's comps with that exact same problem bevy121 (117)
1313099 2012-11-18 07:23:00 Not yet; but I will. Haven't slept much lately. Vince (406)
1313100 2012-11-18 11:16:00 I tried reinstalling net 1.1 sp1 and this is what happened.

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1'disk and click OK."

I got .NET Framework 1.1 from Windows update; I have never had it on a disk.

What next?

1313101 2012-11-18 18:53:00 If there are any later versions of net framework installed (2.3.4), on the hdd, you may have to uninstall them, then try and install 1.1 / and its updates, then install the later versions

As it says here (social.technet.microsoft.com)

1313102 2012-11-18 18:54:00 I have never tried the Microsoft Fixit Solution Centre programs, they maybe a waste of time, but it could be worth giving the update Fixit a go:
