79046 2002-09-13 03:39:00 This was in their latest news letter, thought some of you may want to have a look, even though they are from that Company.

79047 2002-09-13 04:07:00 Well well well ]:)

Ten bob to a knob of goat's s**t they are warranty returns where the customer and PC company both gave up on ever getting 'em right.

Unless fully warranted and your meds are right up to strength, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

You can't remanufacture PCs, you can only disassemble them then reassemble the components at random into new configurations. Where I come from it's called kicking it around until you lose it.

Cheers

PS If your meds are not up to strength, contact Matron (Susan B) she's done wonders with mine. :D

79048 2002-09-13 05:02:00 nice one billy T ;-)

makes me wonder how many returns and repo's they get.

i wonder how many computers get repo'd in general?

"All re-manufactured PCs purchased from The PC Company come with a one-year parts and labour return to base standard warranty from the date of sale, one-year basic hardware technical FREE Call Back phone and email support.

Your warranty is in addition to and not in substitution for the warranties contained under the Consumer Guarantees Act."

This is the same warrantly offered on squeaky new PC's.

79050 2002-09-13 06:01:00 It's possible to be too paranoid, folks .

These "remanufactured" units have the full warranty . It seems that some have been demonstration units . Others have been returned for "various reasons" . They have been through the same quality control as the regular production . They've been used, so they've been burned in . So they could be better than a "new" one .

You get to install the software yourself . (So you get the full installation media, not a recovery CD) .

The price is "several hundred" less than normal . I'm not likely to buy one, but it doesn't look too terrible to me .

It appears to me that PC Company produce a reasonable consumer item . ("Voted best NZ computer manufacturer by the readers of PC World"!) They must be making them reasonably well, becasue they are still in business . Warranty repairs are costly .

79051 2002-09-13 06:06:00 Agree Graham. Probably better than new, as the MTBF for components is probably longer than their useable life anyway in the world of computers. The only part that may be degraded due to use could be the monitor. godfather (25)
79052 2002-09-13 06:09:00 Yes, I know people here have been a bit hard on them sometimes. Thing is the computer you use is always less reliable than the one you don't use. When you have heaps out there you are going to have more failures, stands to reason.

As for repossessions, I am sure that happens a lot more than we would expect. They would have to wipe it and start again, would be a real hassle.

79053 2002-09-13 06:24:00 It will be interesting to see if their problems decrease with the recent handover of the reins (www.thepccompany.co.nz). Susan B (19)
79054 2002-09-13 07:17:00 hmm not too bad at all.

They'd be good for people that don't know a lot about PCs and just need to be able to send email and the like.

79055 2002-09-13 07:18:00 I would say they get heaps of returns. Every person I know has had to return their PC Company machine for repairs (although I admit I don't know more than a handful of owners)

I see the PC Company was advertising for an aditional repair tech for the Dunedin branch, in last Saturday's ODT. They must sell a lot of computers to justify that!
