79000 2002-09-13 05:21:00 It's not exactly 'feature rich' but Netscape Composer is a reasonable place to start.

'Word' produces terrible 'bloatware' html and 1st page 2000 is an html editor - not a wysiwyg.

79001 2002-09-13 06:17:00 at the moment theres alot of webpage design program demos floating around on numerous pc mag discs, pc world had a some a coupe of months back. try and find the likes of Dreamwever MX, Namo webeditor etc around, shouldnt be too hard (u can go to their site but :?, huge download size!) but other than that, theres nothing wrong with good ol notepad, its a nice start on the way to massive webpage development skills :D, and then theres the Microsoft Frontpage LE, free, i think

79003 2002-09-13 07:06:00 I have to agree on the "bloatware" comment when it comes to using word to make webpages.

I ended up rewriting a page that was esentually a long list in a table 3? cells wide, and heaps of cells long. The html after being rewritten was about one third the lenth of the diabolical spew of untidy html code that the prog produced.

There is also a heap of formatting options that disapear once the conversion from word format to html takes place, which is fine, unless you've actually used them.

Its alot easyer to use a wusiwug website maker that is wysiwyg.

Personally i like frontpage, but even with my limited knowledge, i still edit the html to get my work to be what i want it to be

79004 2002-09-13 09:30:00 I agree with wuppo, I cut my teeth on Netscape Composer. I'ts free and does a reasonable job. You will eventually want to move on to more feature-rich programs, but then you start looking at paying out money. My advice, if you're a beginner, have a look and a go at Netscape Composer!
Forget notepad and Word. But if you want instant, not much input, easy to do website creators, there are lots of sites where you can choose from pre-made templates, all you need to do is enter your words etc. and voila, website created. Try www.bravenet.com They offer lots of free stuff too, like counters, guestbooks etc.

79005 2002-09-13 09:43:00 buzzybee,

remember any e-mail address you give to bravenet WILL get spam!!

i created one that was bravenet@a-domain-name-i-own and used it for no other purpose...

I now get all sorts of "exclusive" offers coming in on that address, but do i really want to see britney naked etc??????

Other than that slight indescesion, they provide a great service!
